Porsche Design P’9982 smartphone by BlackBerry launches

When it comes to luxury phones, the outside tends to be more important than the inside. That is certainly the case with the Porsche Design P’9982 smartphone by BlackBerry.

The outside is all about that Porsche Design branding, with the phone constructed from stainless steel, finished with a glass-weave back pane and coated in genuine Italian leather. You also get a certificate of authentication and a special BlackBerry pin for added exclusivity. Actually, there is something special when toy switch it on too - grey walloper to match the theme and a special Porsche design ringtone. Sadly, it isn't a high brow voice shouting 'I have a Porsche Design phone!' every time someone calls.

But dig deeper and you'll find that this isn't a million miles from the much cheaper BlackBerry Z10, with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GB RAM, 4.2-inch 720p display, 8-megapixel camera and the latest BlackBerry 10.2 OS. Storage is better though, coming in at 64GB.

So it should be. Whereas you can buy a Z10 for a couple of hundred quid, the P’9982 smartphone sells for £1450. If that's just fine with you, Harrods will be selling it from 21 November, Carphone Warehouse will have the phone from 25 November, with Selfridges a retailer soon after.
