Samsung pulls Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S III in UK

Android updates by manufacturers are usually trouble-free affairs, not least because the updates only get rolled out after extensive testing. It seems like Samsung hasn't read the script in light of recent software updates being pulled.

Relevant to us in the UK is the halting of Android 4.3 being rolled out to the Galaxy S III. Not long after the rollout commenced, users started to complain about random bugs. That included a wake up 'lag', random freezing, big battery drain, issues with Bluetooth audio, 'stuttering' music playback, freezing when an incoming call arrives and various Wi-Fi issues. Quite a catalogue.

After receiving complaints, Samsung UK has made a statement: 'As we are currently investigating the reported issues with Galaxy S3 4.3 Jelly Bean update, the upgrading service has been temporarily suspended. We are committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience, and will ensure to resume the upgrading service at the earliest possibility.'

There is the possibility that Samsung might have rushed with the new update  in order to bring added support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. If so, it seems like it has been something of a false economy. No news on when the update will be offered again, but we'll let you know as soon as it is.
