Google kicks off KitKat update schedule

Good news if you've not succumbed to buying a Nexus 5 smartphone - Android KitKat is coming to other Google gadgets right now.

Quite literally, as the update is heading out as we write, bringing Android 4.4 to the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablet. But there are some provisos to add to that.

First up, the OTA (over-the-air) updates heading to just the Wi-Fi version of the Nexus 7, so if you have a data model, that will be updated 'soon'. Also, there was no immediate mention of the Nexus 4, but again, word has followed that the update that this will also be 'soon'.

We are guessing that it's a phased rollout in case of any glitches, hence not all of the gadgets being updated straight away. We would also guess that it is rolling out region by region, but there's no harm in check for a software update on your device now. If it's not there, keep an eye on it.

What will you get? Well, you'll get a breakdown of what Android 4.4 KitKat offers right here.
