Apple Garageband app to go free

Good news if you never got round to buying the Apple Garageband app for your iPad or iPhone - it is set to go free.

That's according to Apple itself, but not intentionally. Apple revised and uploaded its built-in apps page for the iPhone 5s, adding that GarageBand will become free, joining the other iLife and iWork apps that went free at the launch of iOS 7.

But Apple will still be making on the deal. It seems that Apple will be running it on a 'freemium' model, offering the main app for free, but selling in-app content, such as instruments and sounds.

The official text said: 'GarageBand is free on the App Store for all iOS 7 compatible devices; additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available with an in-app purchase. iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free on the App Store for qualifying iOS 7 compatible devices activated on or after September 1, 2013.'

The page has since reverted back, but it is likely that the page just went live a little too early, with GarageBand's new status likely to be announced at the Apple event later today, alongside the new range of iPads. So if you are considering the app, sit tight for a few more hours.
