Nexus 5 appears on Google Play

It came and went, but hung around long enough for us all to get a good look at the Google Nexus 5.

Weirdly, the phone was offered as a buoying option on the Google Play store last night, offered for $349 for a 16GB model in the US. Sounds like someone press the wrong button at the wrong time and put it live. It even came with a tagline: 'Capture the everyday and the epic in fresh new ways.' Oh yes, the image you see above is a press shot off Google's servers too. Bad day at the office for someone.

Subtle changes to the screen back up the idea that Android KitKat will be onboard when it landed, with a redesigned camera icon, a new Gmail icon and 'Hangouts' replacing SMS on the homescreen as Google continues to push Google+.

We're expecting an official launch before the end of the month, perhaps on 28 October. When it does launch, a previous service manual leak (is this the most leaked phone ever?) pointed to a 4.95-inch Full HD 1080p display, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, along with 2GB RAM, 16GB or 32GB storage, a 2300mAh battery, wireless charging capabilities and NFC connectivity.

We'll try to look just a little surprised when it does launch. But it won't be easy.
