Samsung Galaxy Round could just be a prototype

When it was showcased last week, the Samsung Galaxy Round lacked those all-important worldwide launch details. Now we know why.

According to SamMobile, the world's first smartphone with a curved display could be the first to depart the market too, with one 'insider' claiming that the Round is only being produced in limited quantities and with availability being confined to its native South Korea.

It's all about testing such a device, perhaps ahead of a wider launch for a different device in 2014. It also explains the high cost of the phone, which is the equivalent of £622 in its homeland. Small production runs can equate to higher prices. You can probably also thrown in an exclusivity factor too.

There's also the possibility of demand being pretty low too. When the novelty has worn off, the Round is really just a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with a curved screen. To be honest, it's probably easier to scribble on a flat screen than a round one.

Anyway, it's unlikely to land here, but you suspect the technology might be key to new phone releases from Samsung in 2014. Watch this space.
