Samsung Galaxy S5 could launch in January 2014

It's not exactly 'poor' when you sell 20 million handsets in the first couple of months of going on sale (and many more since), but the Samsung Galaxy S4 (pictured here) is still said to have performed under expectation. It could lead to drastic action by the company.

Yes, due to sales missing what Samsung had projected and demand no doubt declining (as new phones hit the market), there is talk of an early launch for its successor.

That 'talk' comes from Korean site, which claims Samsung’s management is taking steps to accelerate the launch of the Samsung S5, which is claimed to be on track for a January launch, with availability in February 2014. A CES launch? That would make sense with the world's tech press in one place during that month.

Earlier rumours point to the Samsung Galaxy S5 using the Exynos 5430 64-bit CPU and a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation, along with a new design and a fully metallic chassis.

All speculation right now, but if true, 2014 could really start with a bang.
