Apple rumoured to be holding iPad event on 15 October

All rumour and hearsay so far, but a site with a decent track record is pointing to an Apple event in October, so we're taking notice.

The date is said to be Tuesday 15 October, when Apple will allegedly showcase a variety of new product. New Macs are likely to be shown off, presumably to build on the launch of the new OS X Mavericks operating system. But as far as we're concerned, the big news will be the launch of new iPads.

According to the current rumour, two models will be launched, a new and redesigned full-sized iPad and a refresh of the iPad mini, significantly with a Retina display.

Details on both are sketchy. Apple has been testing a larger screen, but that's unlikely to come into play this year. More likely, we should see the Retina display house in a frame with a slimmer bezel (to allow for a larger viewing area), along with improved battery performance.

The mini has been subject to rumours of delay, but when it does launch, we're expecting that improved screen, along with a faster processor and possibly no bezel at all, which should really improve its visual impact.

Not long off that date, so invites should go out fairly soon if true. We'll let you know when we hear more.
