Credit to Samsung, despite lots of rumour and hearsay, they kept the finished Samsung Galaxy Gear pretty much out of the public eye. But it's here now - and we're impressed at first glance. The idea of a smartwatch is nothing new, Sony has one out too. But Samsung is obviously looking at the market and thinking it has yet to be exploited to its fullest. With Apple rumoured to be working on a smartwatch too (and you really wouldn't rule Google out either), it might well be correct in that assumption. Its first attempt to 'woo' us with the Galaxy Gear, complete with an 800MHz processor, 512MB RAM and a 1.6-inch 320 x 320 resolution OLED screen. It can be used alone, but in reality, this is a watch to use with an Android smartphone. A Samsung one ideally. So you can always be alerted to calls, texts, emails and alerts on your phone or tablet, even if it's in the bottom of your bag or in another room. You can also use it as a hands-free device via Samsung's S Voice, although you might look a but silly talking to your wrist.Other features include a 1.9-megapixel camera on board to capture still images or 720p HD video (very James Bond), 4GB of internal storage and access to a selection of apps. Sadly, no Facebook or Twitter apps for it yet, but that's surely only a matter of time.Plenty of colours to choose from including Jet Black, Mocha Gray, Wild Orange, Oatmeal Beige, Rose Gold, and Lime Green when it lands on 25 September. Price? We don't know, but we suspect it's significantly up on your average high street watch price.
