UK network O2 has confirmed that it will be ranging the 4G version of the Google Nexus 7 2 (2013) and that customers can place online orders for the next-gen budget tablet from today.
The new Nexus 7 tablet is already available to buy in the UK, but the 4G-enabled model is coming two weeks later, on Friday 13 September (hopefully not as unlucky as it sounds). Those tempted by the 4G model can visit O2's retail site today (Thursday 29 August) to pre-order the £319.99 device and receive it on the day of launch. Customers who pre-order the 4G-Ready Nexus 7 2 will also receive a free premium case worth £29.99.
The much-talked about tablet features an array of impressive specs including a 7-inch, 323ppi display - making the Nexus 7 2 the world's highest resolution tablet - as well as dual stereo speakers by Fraunhofer and a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.
The device is also the first to feature the new version of Google's mobile platform, Android 4.3, which includes individual user profiles that can be restricted so as to prevent certain users accessing specific features such as in-app purchasing options.
David Johnson, general manager of device for O2 UK said: "The new Nexus 7 is a fantastic way to experience Android, whether you’re using it for the first time or have used it before. The brilliant screen and fast 4G connectivity will make surfing, gaming and using Google services on the Nexus 7 an absolute joy."
The Asus-produced tablet has been in the offing for a while now and 3G and Wi-Fi only versions were finally unveiled yesterday by Google after a series of leaks, the most recent of which came in the form of confirmation of a 28 August launch date from Asus itself.
Google officially announced the highly anticipated follow up to the popular Nexus 7 on Wednesday, revealing £199 and £239 price points for the 16GB and 32GB versions respectively. Both variants of the device are available for sale from the Google Play store as well as other select UK retailers with shipping times pegged at 1-2 days.
A Wi-Fi only version will be made available in the not too distant future and will retail at £249.99 from O2, both in-store and online. We already love the new Nexus 7 2 tablet from our hands-on preview session, and our full review will be coming soon!
