Press shot of Sony Xperia Z1 leaks online

Sony might only be hinting at a launch, but a leaked image of the Sony Xperia Z1 pretty much seals the deal.

The image, said to be an official press shot or render, has appeared online, giving us a decent idea of just what Sony is planning for its upcoming IFA event. It looks like a phone very much in the same area as the Xperia Z, offered in a choice of black, white and purple.

On the back of the phone you can see what is likely to be the stand out feature, the 20-megapixel rear camera with Sony G Lens (the 'G') branding is just about visible on the purple version of the phone.

By all accounts, the hardware side of things is similar to the Z Ultra, with a Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB RAM and microSD slot, with other rumours adding 16GB storage, a 5-inch 1080p display, 3,000mAh battery and possibly a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 4G connectivity and NFC.

All should be revealed next week, but if you are in any doubt, an official teaser from Sony has landed on Google+, showing a close-up of that G lens, looking almost identical to the one on the leak.

It's coming, that's for sure. We can't wait for the hands-on.
