Nokia rolls out Lumia Amber update

Nokia has confirmed that its Lumia Amber update has started to roll out, bringing with it a variety of improvements for owners of Lumia smartphones.

First up, it brings improved image processing, with enhanced algorithms that offer better noise reduction, colour reproduction, exposure control and autofocus to every phone across the Lumia range. On the Lumia 920, controls to adjust the ISO settings of the camera from 800 to 3200 allow for even better low light performance.

On top of that, you can now download  Nokia Smart Camera, which debuted on the Nokia Lumia 925 and offers the likes of Best Shot to find the sharpest image from a series of ten, the ability to combine several shots of people in movement into one with Action Shot, the option yo boost appearance of speed by blurring the background with Motion Focus and create group shots by choosing the best faces from a series with Change Faces.

Also, Nokia Pro Camera will also be available for the Lumia 920, Lumia 925, and Lumia 928 starting today. Once you’ve taken videos with your updated Lumia, you can edit them with the Nokia Video Trimmer app and upload them to YouTube with Nokia Video Upload. Both apps are now available to download.

Outside of imagery, the Nokia Glance Screen is rolling out, bringing a clock to your screen when the phone is inactive, along with indicators to show the battery level when running on a low battery or the phone is charging, and whether your phone is set to 'silent'. There's are also new flip to silence and double-tap to unlock features, along with quicker updating of Here Maps, a new FM radio player and improvements to Xbox music and the Internet Explorer browser.

The rollout starts now first for the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 in selected countries. Exact delivery timings will vary by region, phone and operator, but the updates should all be out there by the end of September.
