Press shot of HTC One Max leaks

It was leaked by a usually reliable source, but we're not sure whether this is a 'proper' press shot of the HTC One Max.

The image came from the @evleaks source, said to a 'non-final' shot of the HTC T6, otherwise known as the HTC One Max. It has the 'look' of past leaks, but in a much more finished form. It doesn't show you what it can do, but it does claim to show what the upcoming phablet will look like up close.

Or does it? Soon after the image started doing the rounds, HTC's senior global online communications manager Jeff Gordon commented on Engadget: 'Fake. @evleaks is way off his game.'

So where do we stand? We don't really know. The source is usually a reliable one, but the company seems pretty insistent that this isn't anything like the One Max. The truth is perhaps somewhere in the middle - we reckon it's not far off right (as previous spy shots indicate), but isn't the final model.

What is certain is a launch at the upcoming IFA event at the start of September, where we expect a phone with a 5.9-inch display, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, a choice of either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage and a camera that's likely to be some variation of the UltraPixel camera from the original One smartphone.

Not long to wait to find out.
