Nexus 4 owners report Android 4.3 problems

Earlier this week, we reported that the Nexus 4 was on the receiving end of the Android 4.3 upgrade, with owners in the UK already being offered the latest version of Google's operating system. News reaches us today that the updates aren't going smoothly for everyone.

Despite being a fairly modest step up, with multiple profiles being the main change, it looks like the upgrade has been a real pain for some users. On Google's Product Forums, a number of people are reporting that after the update is downloaded and installed, their handsets either freeze on the 'X' splash screen or get lost in a never-ending boot loop.

Either way, it's effectively a dead phone unless owners factory reset their phones or jump back to an older version of Android, both of which delete saved data in the process.

The thing is, this isn't a universal problem, with other owners updating without issue. That's the annoying thing, it seems like it could go either way, with no real way of assessing how many people have been successful or suffered.

In short, if you haven't updated yet, you might want to sit tight and wait for word or a fix from Google. If it is a widespread problem, one of both of those things should be along soon enough.
