Promotional shot of new Nexus 7 emerges

We know Google is hosting a launch event on 24 July and we expect that event to showcase the all-new Google Nexus 7 tablet. What was missing was an image of it. Now we have that too.

Yes, that's the new Android tablet above. Ok, it's not a radical departure for the Asus-made device, but this is the tablet Google hopes will keep the cash registers busy over the festive season. If the price is right, we're sure it will.

This image was leaked by (you guessed it) @evleaks on Twitter, but a further image via Phone Arena shows a press ad for the tablet, which points to a shelf date of 30 July. Granted that's a US ad, but a UK launch isn't going to be far behind it. Price? In the US, $229 is being quoted for the 16GB model. We'll have to wait to see how that pans out on these shores.

Images of the new tablet point to subtle design changes, with the new Nexus 7 offering top and bottom speakers, a headphone jack at the top, front and rear-cameras, and the Nexus logo on the back. The specification is obviously to be confirmed, but rumours point to a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB RAM, wireless charging, a 1980 x 1200 screen resolution and possibly Android 4.3, which could be another launch later this week.

Just a couple of days and all those loose ends will be cleared up.
