New Google Nexus 7 could launch next week

Google has announced a surprise product event on 24 July. It now looks like being the green light for sales of the all-new Google Nexus 7 tablet.

Why? Well the evidence is mounting to suggest such a thing. First up, Engadget has got its hands on internal documents from a retailer, pointing out that the new tablet will be sold alongside the old version, with stock landing as soon as 20 July. It's likely that the stock will be put aside though, until after the Google launch event at a guess.

The model being discussed is a 32GB model, but there might be a 16GB model too. In the US, that 32GB tablet will be priced at $269.99 (£177.66 if you do the UK conversion). No confirmed pricing for the UK as yet.

On the back of that, Android Central got its hands on some images of the new model (one of which is above) and some details of just what the Asus-made tablet will offer. It claims there will indeed be 16GB and 32GB models, along with data and Wi-Fi versions.

A 7-inch LCD display is here of course, along with a 1.2-megapixel camera  on the front and a 5-megapixel camera to the rear. Inside, there is a  Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 4GB RAM, a microUSB port and dual speakers. This test model is using Android 4.3, but there's a chance it will launch with Android 2.2.2, but will update soon after.

So there you have it, something of an evolution for the Nexus 7 rather than anything revolutionary. Confirmed details almost certainly next week - we'll be on hand when they are available.
