Google Maps 2.0 heads to the iPad

The best things come to those who wait and for iPad owners, that's Google Maps 2.0.

Google has begun rolling out version 2.0 of Google Maps for iOS today, with the update now available in the UK App Store. Some improvements as you would expect, but for owners of the iPad and iPad mini, the biggest enhancement is availability for tablets.

But that's not the only thing that's better from today. Both the iPad and iPhone will get new features already found on the Android app, including enhanced navigation with incident reports and live traffic updates.

You'll also find an Explore function to browse popular places such as restaurants, shops and places to stay, along with Zagat ratings and (where applicable) deals via Google Offers. Indoor mapping functionality is also here for shopping centres and airports (for example). I've just tested it for my local shopping mall and it does work, but isn't a complete listing. Guess the data will catch up eventually.

Anyway, it's available now and of course free. If you have an iPad, this really is a no-brainer of a download.
