HTC M8 to be company's 2014 flagship phone

HTC is already busy with its next generation of premium phones, one of which will arrive later this year, according to reports.

HTC is planning to release an updated version of the HTC One later in 2013, according to 'a source familiar with the matter' talking to the Pocket Lint site, with an all-new model already planned for 2014.

That 2014 model is currently called the HTC M8, although different names have been used to suppliers to keep details under wraps. It's worked too, as no details are currently available, apart from the the fact that it is in development and launching next year.

But it isn't the next big launch from HTC. The company is looking at releasing an updated HTC One with updated hardware. That's possibly going to be focused around the processor and a jump from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset to the Snapdragon 800. It's a modest move rather like the one that took the HTC One X to the One X+.

Is that all? Not quite. HTC is also looking to merge the One and Butterfly lines, resulting in a plastic HTC One handset in 2014. Again, no real detail, but as the year end approaches, we expect a burst of rumour and activity on this and the other models.
