Microsoft planning new Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets

Not sure just how popular the Surface tablets were for Microsoft, but they were obviously popular enough to go for a second generation, which should land later this year.

That's according to The Verge, which spotted some slides at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference this week, which drew up a roadmap of the company's activities in 2013. Both 'Update to Surface RT' and 'Update to Surface Pro' were listed, although details sadly didn't follow.

However previous rumours point to a Surface Pro using Intel's recently released Haswell processor and a Surface RT with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 processor, along with integrated LTE connectivity for broadband on the go. There's also the possibility of a cover that charges the tablet, but that's more in the land of speculation.

The same site also claims that Staples in the US will be undertaking a significant price cut from this weekend. Coincidence? We don't think so. Anyway, an ad (accidentally) posted online pointed to a $150 price cut, which is around £98 in the UK. So a Surface RT 32GB dropping to $349.99, the 64GB model down to $449.99, the 32GB with Touch Cover to $449.99 plus the 64GB with Touch Cover dropping to $549.99.

No news of UK price cuts, but if this is Microsoft-driven, we would expect something similar over here too.
