Top premium iOS apps go free on Apple's App Store

We like the word 'free', especially when it is used in conjunction with the words 'premium apps'. Which pretty much sums up what is happening at Apple's App Store right now.

Without any prior explanation, a number of pricey apps have suddenly gone free. There's no reason why this should have happened, aside from it being part of the celebrations for the Apple App Stores 5th anniversary. Perhaps some companies have jumped the gun a little? I'm sure we'll hear from Apple one way or another if that's the case.

So far, games such as Infinity Blade II, Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP, Where's My Water?, Badland and Tiny Wings are all being offered for free (for a limited time presumably), alongside apps such as Traktor DJ, Day One, Over, and Barefoot World Atlas.

None of these have been free before and some have been seriously pricey. Traktor DJ for iPad, for example, usually sells for the best part of £20, so that is a saving you really don't want to miss out on. That's if you love your music. if not, stick with the gaming discounts.

Apple is certain to make some comment on this, with the apps possibly just the first wave of giveaways. That's what we're hoping. In the meantime, fill your boots.
