Huawei plans Ascend P6 Google Edition

We got hands-on with the world's thinnest smartphone a few days back and we were pretty impressed initially. But it seems the original version of the Huawei Ascend P6 will not be the last.

Talking to Pocket Lint, Kevin Ho, president of the handset product division at Huawei, claimed the company is collaborating with Google to create a Google Edition of the company's new P6 smartphone,. That will, of course, mean the phone running stock Android without the Emotion UI currently in place with the P6.

'We are working with Google to analyse the possibility of bringing out a Huawei Ascend P6 with Google Edition,' he said.

It's a strange move for the company after Huawei's chairman Richard Yu said  pretty much the opposite at the P6 launch in London. He claimed Huawei's Emotion UI was a serious step up, with 'hundreds of improvements' over solitary Google Android, adding that its user interface would be better in touch with a user's 'emotions'.

Maybe he wasn't at the Google Edition meeting. Anyway, it seems like Huawei will be the latest in an ever-growing list of companies offering alternative Google Editions of its hardware. In fact, it now seems like it is expected for a flagship phone to come as an alternate version. Which is good news for us, the consumer.
