Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie rumoured for October

It was never a certainty, but the lack of Android 5.0, aka Key Lime Pie, was still a disappointment at the recent Google I/O event. It now seems like we'll have to wait until summer is well and truly over before we see it.

'Insider info' via the Android Community site now points to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie landing in early October, which sounds about right for a launch, with the festive season just on the horizon. The insider claims it will have 'tons' of optimisations across the board and will adapt to run on devices of all shapes, sizes, and specs, even down to single-core devices with 512MB RAM. Good news for updates then. At least, in theory.

As you might expect, Google is looking to show off its latest OS with some fresh hardware. That same source claims Google will showcase either a new Nexus 5 (the follow-up to the LG Nexus 4 pictured here), or the Moto X phone that's been rumoured for months. Possibly both, you would assume, but the source says it's an either/or thing.

No more detail as yet, but at least there's a date to work to. Hopefully the leaks will break some weeks before that.
