Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini officially launched

It has been heavily leaked, so it's no surprise to see the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini launch well ahead of Samsung's press event in London next month,

Described as a 'powerful, compact smartphone designed to fit busy lifestyles', it offers the power of a modern-day smartphone in a more compact form, with a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, a 1.7GHz dual core processor and 1.5GB RAM packed into a handset weighing just 107g. There's also 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot and Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2.

Overall specs are obviously down on the flagship Galaxy S 4 handset, but you'll still find an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, as well as a 1.9-megapixel HD front-facing camera. Also present is Sound&Shot, which stores sounds and images together, Panorama Shot which allows you to take a full view of what you are seeing, and Story Album, which automatically arranges photos in a 'smart' format, tagging and sorting out albums on your behalf.

The S4 Mini also comes with the S Travel app preloaded, offering travel assistance and information, Group Play, should you want to share listening and gaming with friends, ChatON messaging, S Translator for instant translation, WatchON's IR remote which transforms the device into a remote control and S Health, which enables you to monitor your calorie balance, exercise and sleeping patterns.

So as much of a personal assistant as a smartphone. But isn't that the way in 2013? The Galaxy S4 Mini will be available in two colours – White Frost and Black Mist, along with a 4G LTE version, 3G version, and 3G Dual Sim version, although only some of those will be heading to the UK.

No shipping date for the UK as yet, but we think it should be good for the height of summer.
