Sony has kicked off the week with a new handset, the waterproof Sony Xperia ZR.Yes, a waterproof phone - and not just the odd splash. As well as being dust-resistant, this phone is IP55 and IP58 compliant, so you can keep it submerged in 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes. Combined with a dedicated camera key, it lets you shoot videos in Full HD or snap pictures underwater. Now there's a novelty for the summer holidays. On top of that, the Android phone offers a 4.6-inch HD Reality display with OptiContrast panel for clearer viewing, a 13-megapixel fast capture camera with Sony's Exmor RS for mobile image sensor plus HDR video, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5 GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 4G LTE connectivity and a Battery STAMINA Mode which improves the standby time of your smartphone by four times or more. There's also NFC, Sony's Walkman album and movie apps and four colour options to choose from, those being black, white, pink and mint. At least, there will be when the phone hits the UK. No specific details of that just yet, but Sony is talking about some global launches in the second quarter of 2013, which means in a matter of weeks.
We should get the pricing confirmed pretty soon, with that in mind.
