Early launches of new iPhone and iPad mini rumoured

It's all rumour so far, but according to various sources, Apple could have new mobile product on the shelves quicker than expected.

The Patently Apple site claims to have heard supply chain reports which point to component parts for the iPhone 5S arriving at manufacturers. If the timetable is to be believed, Apple's people could be making the phones from July.

We had previously heard of a delay, but it now looks like that delay isn't as bad as perhaps earlier thought. A later summer launch might now be possible, rather than one that sneaks into autumn.

The iPad mini could also sneak in a little earlier too. According to NPD DisplaySearch analysts, a new model is due this year, rather than in the first quarter of 2014. That body claims a Retina iPad mini will be launching in the third quarter of 2013 (around the same time as the new iPhone, you would guess). Production on those Retina display panels should begin in June or July.

DisplaySearch's Richard Shim also claims that current iPad mini display supplier LG Display will 'maintain a prominent role' in production of the new Retina screens, with Samsung out of the display supply picture. He also added that the Retina iPad mini will have the same 2048 x 1536 resolution as the iPad's Retina display, but at a higher pixel density to fit the iPad mini's smaller physical size.

Expect this one to run and run, but expect Apple to have at least two mobile products on the shelves in time for the festive season. Possibly well before.
