Sony planning supersized Xperia smartphone

New Xperia could be incoming if sources out of China are to be believed.

Specifications for two large Sony smartphones have been posted on Chinese sites, one claiming to be a 6.44-inch successor to the Xperia Z pictured above, the other being a 5-inch phone called Honami.

The specs come from someone claiming to be a tester of Xperia devices, who points out that the Togari handset packs a 6.44-inch 1080p display, using a similar design to the Xperia Z, with a glass back and white colour option.

If that's not enough, there's also a handset codenamed Honami, claim to pack a 5-inch 1080p display, a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor, a Walkman audio chip and a 20-megapixel Cyber-shot camera with Carl Zeiss lens.

Launch dates for both are vague, with July being talked about in China, although Sony is more likely to make a splash at IFA 2013, which takes place in early September. Either way you look at it, the phones are still some time off. So plenty of time for an image or two to leak before an official showcase.
