Archos offers three budget smartphones

French maker Archos has entered the Android smartphone market, producing three handsets that are unlikely to do too much damage to your wallet.

As you might have guessed, none will worry the top end of the range, but they do look worthy of a closer look if you need to keep costs down. Kicking things off is the Archos 50 Platinum, with a 5-inch 960 x 540, 220-ppi screen, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB storage, an 8-megapixel camera and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

There's also the Archos 53 platinum, which is a larger 5.3-inch version of that, along with a larger 2800mAh battery. Finally, you can opt for the Archos 35 Carbon, with its 3.5-inch screen, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, VGA cameras and 512MB RAM.

You can get them from the end of May, with the Archos 50 Platinum selling for £179.99, the Archos 53 Platinum at £199.99 and the 35 Carbon beng the cheapie at £79.99.
