iPhone 5S could feature 12-megapixel camera

I think it's fair to say that the new iPhone will not be a complete reinvention. Instead, the upcoming hardware update will boost features of the current model, which is now likely to include the camera.

According to the MacRumors site, which cites a Vietnamise site (and in turn, a supplier of camera modules for the iPhone), the camera on the iPhone 5S will get a substantial boost. The current model features the same 8-megapixel rear camera with an f2.4 aperture that was introduced with the iPhone 4S. But the next iPhone is said to be jumping to a 12-megapixel camera. Not just that, the camera is said to feature a lower aperture to improve night and low light shooting.

How reliable is the report? Well, the Tinhte.vn site has shared several Apple prototypes in the past, as well as Apple's redesigned EarPods and an early version of the fourth generation iPod touch, so it does have a good track record of being first with Apple products.

With that in mind, you can take this as likely, but you'll probably have to wait until July for the launch of what is expected to be a colourful new iPhone from Apple.
