Sony Xperia E now available in the UK

The availability of a budget smartphone in the UK isn't necessarily headline news. But the Sony Xperia E is a different proposition.

As we mentioned last month, Sony has offered an experimental Firefox ROM for use with the Xperia E only. Which means you can use the new mobile platform very much ahead of the crowd.

But be careful, as this is a ROM and comes with a warning that unlocking your bootloader and switching operating systems 'may void your warranty.' With that in mind, you really need to be fairly useful with working on the technical side of phones before you make the jump from Android to Firefox. But it's a nice option to have at a reasonable price.

That price is £129.99 SIM-free at retailer Clove, which gets you a handset with 3.5-inch HGVA screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera, 1GHz processor, 4GB of on-board storage, a MicroSD slot and 512MB of RAM, with Android Jelly Bean being the operating system.

Not a bad phone on the face of it (for the money), but if you want to get in on the first floor with Firefox, it could be a bargain.
