HTC bringing Sense 5 to existing smartphones

It was one of the highlights of the HTC One launch, but it now looks like you don't have to buy that smartphone to get your hands on Sense 5.

Facebook was the bringer of glad tidings. One owner asked HTC if Sense 5 was coming to the HTC One X and was greeted with the reply of: 'HTC will be offering upgrades to some of its existing devices in the next few months, including global variants of HTC One X, One X+, One S and the HTC Butterfly.'

However, it added: 'Also, note that some features enabled by the new HTC One hardware will not be available in the software updates.'

It isn't going to be quick, with months rather than weeks being talked about, but if you liked the look of the Sense 5 Blinkfeed for catching up with your media on the homescreen, it should be worth the wait.

Of course, the line about some features not being available might be a concern, but that's said to be down to hardware constraints. We'll only know for sure what's been dropped when the rollout beings to those phones.

If you can't wait that long, the HTC One should be in the UK in a couple of weeks. So if you are due an upgrade, that's a way to go. In the meantime, see our hands-on with the HTC One and of course, that Sense 5 interface.
