This Sunday (February 24th) sees Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 kick off in sunny (hopefully) Barcelona. It is a massive international event that sees the launch of dozens of slick new phones, tablets, apps and accessories. Mobile Choice will be covering MWC 2013 live as usual, so check back here – and on our Twitter and Facebook feeds – for the latest news and hands-on previews!
Here’s a quick run-down of what we’re expecting to see...
Although the Galaxy S IV launch looks like it’ll be post-MWC, Samsung should still be knocking around at MWC 2013 to show off its new Galaxy Note 8.0 stylus tablet, which has already been accidentally revealed. We’re also hoping to get our hands on the Galaxy Fame and Galaxy Young, two new great value Samsung smartphones.
We reckon Sony will unveil its new Xperia tablet, which will rock a 10.1-inch 1920p HD screen for incredible movie playback. We might see one or two mid-range Xperia smartphones too, to join the shiny premium Xperia Z.
We’ve had a pre-emptive MWC strike from LG, in the form of the new Optimus F5 and F7 4G phones,as well as the sequels to last year’s Optimus L Series range - dubbed rather creatively the Optimus L Series II. With any luck we’ll also catch a gander at the uber-powerful rumoured Optimus G Pro.
Huawei’s bigwigs have teased two new smartphones to be released at MWC 2013, one of which will almost certainly be the Ascend P2 – the sequel to last year’s powerful Ascend P1, which packed impressive specs at a decent price. After already launching a bunch of phones at CES 2013, including the new Ascend W1 Windows Phone 8 handset, it looks like 2013 is gonna be another busy year for the world’s number 3.
A promising partnership with Mozilla means we’ll be seeing the first Firefox phone at MWC, made by those clever chaps at ZTE. It’ll be interesting to see how Firefox OS stacks up to other fresh phone interfaces, including BB10 and Windows Phone 8.
An early-morning Monday press conference could see Nokia unleash a Windows 8 tablet on the world. We’re hoping for some serious competition for the Asus Vivo Tab RT and Microsoft’s Surface Tab.
We'll bring you full MWC 2013 news, previews and photos live from the event from Sunday to Wednesday!
