Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 gets an official launch

If your idea of a good weekend is to walk up a big hill or ramble the countryside for several hours, you might find the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 pretty useful. The rest of us might just shrug our shoulders and look further up the Galaxy range.

That's not being harsh on this newly-launched phone - it's just fact. This is a phone designed for more rugged terrain, at the expense of some of the premium features. So a chunky exterior and water-resistance to a depth of one metre for 30 minutes for example. It can even take photos when underwater too. Although if you do drop your phone in the wet stuff, you might have other priorities.

As for the handset itself, it runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and hosts a 4-inch WVGA display, 5-megapixel camera, VGA front-camera, 1,700mAh battery, 1GHz dual-core processor and Bluetooth 4.0. Samsung's Motion UI is also here, if you want to control things via movement. Might be useful if you are wearing gloves up a mountain.

No word on pricing or availability as yet, could be one to be shown off at next month's MWC.
