Sony working on Xperia Tablet Z

The last Sony tablet launch, the Sony Xperia Tablet S, has had a bit of a rough ride since it launched late last year - most notably when it was withdrawn from sale for not being splashproof as promised. However, the company could be putting all of that behind it with an all-new tablet, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z.

Yes, it's a possible companion device to the Sony Xperia Z phone, in name and possibly design. According to the rumour mill, work is now in progress, although a launch date has yet to be set. But with such a detailed specification leaking, we suspect that work is well underway.

When it does arrive, expect a device with a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 Full HD touchscreen, a 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB of built-in storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and, interestingly, LTE.

It will also be waterproof (yes, that one again) and dustproof. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be the operating system. As for looks, as we hinted at earlier, the design is said to borrow from the Xperia Z phone, rather than the Tablet S pictured above.

Still speculation right now, but if things are close to launch, expect some more substantial leaks and images to follow.
