Facebook could showcase Messenger For iPad this week

Last week, we heard that Facebook was hosting an event to 'see what we're building', which in turn led to widespread speculation about just what Facebook is actually building. The conclusion is a selection of new products, likely to include Facebook Messenger For iPad.

It's a product that has been rumoured in the past, but now it seems like Messenger for the bigger mobile screen is ready to go. According to TechCrunch, Messenger for iPad will arrive this week, complete with emoticons, photosharing, read receipts, location tagging, group messaging, and the latest voice-recorded messaging feature. Similar to the mobile app, but with a much larger screen to see the 'action'.

A 'source' claims is will be one of the products showcased on Tuesday, with future additions such as video chat, VoIP, and voice messages likely to follow as Facebook attempts to muscle in on your personal communications.

But this is unlikely to be the biggest launch, which still leaves plenty of speculation. The Facebook-owned Instagram app is yet to make the jump to the big screen, so is a possibility. But the biggest splash would be the launch of a Facebook phone. That has been rumoured, but if it was shown off, it would be well ahead of a shelf date, which is expected to be deep into 2013.

We'll know for sure in just over a day's time.
