CES 2013: Huawei W1 finally revealed

It has just been a leak so far, but with the Huawei W1 spotted at CES, it looks like the smartphone should be arriving in early 2013.

The Huawei Ascend W1 is the company's first Windows Phone 8 device and an entry-level one too. No bad thing though, as the new Windows platform needs a good spread of devices to keep the appeal wide.

The W1 didn't get an official unveiling like the Ascend Mate and D2, but it was on the event floor, available for a spec check. Check out our full hands-on preview for our initial thoughts.

The specification was pretty much as expected, around 10mm in thickness and with a 4-inch display, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage (which you can boost with a microSD card) and a micro USB slot on the bottom. A five-megapixel camera was also rumoured, but not confirmed. But as the rest of the breakdown tallies with rumour, we suspect the camera is as expected.

No news on when we finally get to see it on the shelves, 2013 is still the official word. But as we said, we think the W1 isn't long off.
