Good news sports fans, there is a BBC Sport app now available. At least, it is if you happen to have an iPhone or an iPod touch. It's an inevitable launch, one that we've been expecting ever since the Beeb produced an Olympics. But this one takes in a lot more than the running and jumping. It covers all sports (at least, all the ones the BBC covers), with the more popular (think football) getting the lion's share of that coverage. So if you need the latest scores, upcoming fixtures and breaking news for your favourite team, you'll be well served with this app. There's even 'as it happens' commentary available on the big games too. Footie gossip is here too, although it tends to link out to other pages rather than rewrite each source. You'll also find daily live text commentaries from BBC journalists, the option to customise the app to tune into your favourite sports more quickly, the ability to share stories and results by email and on social networks and links to BBC mobile pages for any sports not yet integrated into the app. It's described as a first step, with further improvements promised as the weeks and months pass, including club personalisation, Radio 5 Live integration and video content for events that the BBC has the rights for (Wimbledon for example). One of the most significant future enhancements is further device compatibility. An Android app is said to be following soon, one that will accommodate different sizes of Android displays, perhaps with one eye on the plethora of Nexus 7 owners out there right now.More on that when it lands. In the meantime, if you have an iOS device, check it out now. Free, of course.
