Sony Xperia Z series leaks

Well, just days into the new year and we're already seeing the next generation of smartphone. Or rather, we're seeing what Sony is planning to offer us in 2013, kicking off with the Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL.

Both of these phones have leaked under development names in the past, the Z being the Sony Yuga and the ZL as the Odin, although there was confusion over whether the two were actually the same phone. Not so, it seems.

Both the phones have been spotted on Sony's own site, with rumoured specifications following in their wake. Those details point to very similar phones with slightly different shapes, the ZL being slightly more compact than the Z.

Both devices are said to host a 5-inch 1080p LCD screen and quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, along with 2GB RAM, Adreno 320 graphics and a 13-megapixel Exmor RS sensor (although positioning of the camera differs between the two phones).

Two very similar phones perhaps indicates different models for different territories - a launch in China is already confirmed, so perhaps one model could be geared for that market. We'll find out for sure at the worldwide launch, expected next week at CES in Las Vegas.
