App Review: Absolute Radio's Rock Off

We love a good quiz at Christmas, and we love a good cheesy tune too, so may the good lord bless Absolute Radio for combining the two into the Absolute Radio Rock Off app for iOS. The rules are as simple as they come: you hear a snippet of a popular tune and you’ve got just a few precious seconds to work out which of three multiple-choice songs it is. See, so easy even your drunk granny could figure it out.

On top of the standard single-player mode, the real meat of Absolute Radio’s Rock Off is the multiplayer mode. This allows two or more players to compete against each other as well as the clock to identify each song, accumulating points for how fast they guess. You can either cluster around a single iDevice, hook up your phones for a bit more breathing space, or even play over the interwebs.

You only get a measly 25 tracks to start with, but you can download sample packs from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s for free, or pay 69p for the full packs which have lots more songs. There’s also a special Christmas pack if you’re feeling festive. But even if you don’t want to stump up for the extra songs, the Rock Off is good for a quick giggle for the music fans in your household.
