Google News gets a new look for tablets

Browsing the latest news on your tablet just became a more pleasurable experience with the launch of a 'more natural and fluid' design for Google News on a tablet.

That description is from Google itself, which has steadily rolled out the new design for the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, along with Apple's iPad tablet. No app to download, you just need to point your tablet's browser at the site to see it in full effect.

With the new design, you can find new articles, news sources or topics of interest with 'intuitive' gestures. You can swipe horizontally between sections or tap 'explore in depth' to see multiple articles and other info related to a particular story. There's also more space between articles, making it easier to spot the stories that happen to be of interest.

There is probably scope for a standalone app for Google News, but for now this looks like a decent second option. Try it now. Or if it's not there yet, keep checking back, it should be live before the end of the week.
