ZTE Nubia Z5 could be a budget Note rival

Ok, it's not quite as big as the Samsung Galaxy Note II screen, but the one on the ZTE Nubia Z5 should be much cheaper.

The phone is rumoured to be launching in China soon, but could make its way further afield afterwards. ZTE has made phones for networks in the past, could it be a network-branded phone in the UK? Possibly. But even if it launches here in its own right, the Nubia Z5 should still be a 'value' offering in a canny network's range.

When it does arrive, it is said to offer that five-inch 1080p screen, the most recent take on Android for the OS, a quad-core S4 Pro chip and 2GB RAM and a 13-megapixel camera. Possibly budget in price, but certainly not in features. It also all fits into a fairly slim 7.66mm casing, so a stylish number too.

As we said, this is likely to appear in its native China later this month, with a possible European appearance in early 2013. It could be a busy time for ZTE, with talk of a Windows Phone 8 smartphone with a whopping 5.9-inch screen also being in the works. Although that is much more of a rumour, compared to the certainty of the Nubia Z5 launch.
