Huawei W1 delayed until 2013

It hasn't exactly been shy, with the Huawei Ascend W1 showing itself on Twitter in October in a bold shade of blue. Back then, we heard a launch was imminent, but that official launch never came to fruition.

Now it looks like we'll be waiting quite a bit longer. Huawei is apparently looking at launching the W1 in January 2013 now, with the CES event in Las Vegas the place to be if you want a first official glance. If the rumoured specification becomes reality, it certainly isn't going to the most cutting edge WP8 handset. A 4-inch WVGA display, 1.2GHz dual-core chip, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a 5-megapixel camera don't exactly get us hot under the collar. But a cheap price just might.

The budget Windows Phone range is officially WP7, but that could change if the Ascend W1 comes in at $200 (£125). Yes, you read that price correctly. It's the price currently being rumoured, based on a (now removed) promotional video on YouTube. Originally $300 was mentioned, but $200, if true, really goes in hard and opens up the latest Microsoft platform to a much wider customer base, especially if the contracts follow suit.

Time will tell on this one. Not much time either, with less than two months to CES.
