A study has found that mobile devices are now such an intergral part of life, 90 per cent of 18 to 29-year-olds sleep with their phones either in their beds or right next to them.
And this habit isn't as harmless as you might think. Exposure to light from electronic devices reduces levels of the sleep chemical melatonin, leading to sleepy people and more and more of us falling ill due to a lack of sleep. With 95 per cent of respondents saying they browse, text or watch TV in the hour before going to bed, the problem is endemic.
Also problematic is the fact that 25 per cent of people don't silence their phones overnight, with one in ten complaining of being woken up by their mobiles at least once a week.
