BlackBerry L-series snuggles up to iPhone 5

Details of the phone have been floating around for some weeks, but 'real' photos (as opposed to rendered shots) of the L-Series BlackBerry have been less common. Which makes this one all the more interesting.

It is one of a pair of shots making an appearance online, both of the L-Series, which is also known as the BlackBerry London. It shows the phone next to the iPhone 5, giving you an idea of just how substantial this is. It is said to be identical in height, but slightly wider than Apple's latest phone. However, as we have already heard, the screen is slightly larger, specifically a  4.2-inch display with a 1280 x 768 resolution.

Not much else can be gleaned from the shot, although previous reports mention an 8-megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash on the rear of the phone, a 2-megapixel networking camera, 1080p video recording, NFC, Wi-Fi and A-GPS.

As we heard earlier in the week, RIM is likely to host a BlackBerry 10 launch event on 30 January, with both the L-Series and the QWERTY variation (N-Series) provisionally scheduled for the shelves of phone retailers in February.

So not long to wait for the second coming of BlackBerry, but certainly time enough for a few more leaks ahead of the big launch.
