iPhone 5S could get an early launch

Apple upgraded the iPad ahead of the usual one-year cycle, so why not the iPhone? If rumours out of the far east are to be believed, that might well happen next year.

The phone is question is being termed the iPhone 5S and according to Digitimes, quoting the Chinese languages Commercial Times, it will go into production very soon.

That production is said to be 'initial production volumes' of a modest  50,000 - 100,000 units, with the serious production numbers pencilled in for the first quarter of 2013 if things go well. All of which points to that early launch.

Why the need for a new iPhone? According to that same source, there have been problems with volume production of the current model, leading Apple to rethink the component parts and production.

If it happens, it's a bold decision by Apple. The contracts for the latest model and pricey and in the majority of cases, tie people to two years with their phones. If a new model comes with significantly updated hardware, Apple could face the wrath of its most loyal fans, the early adopters.

This one is likely to run and run, we'll keep our ear to the ground for updates.
