APP WATCH: Facebook for iOS gets an update

It might well have some of its own hardware on the horizon, but for now, Facebook is all about apps when it mobile devices. For iOS devices, the app has just been updated to Facebook 5.1.

Not a reworking of the app, just a few useful changes that will almost certainly be welcomed. First are some features likely to be familiar to users of the standalone Messenger app from Facebook. The new app allows you to swipe left anywhere within, so you can see who's online and send a message. It also allows you to add friends you message the most to the top of your favourites. When sending messages, you can see who's active so you and your friends know how soon to expect a reply.

On top of that, the app lets you share multiple photos with your friends much faster (much like the Facebook Camera app) and if you have access to Facebook gifts (which isn't us users in the UK), you can send them directly via the app.

All of that part of the free app, available to update or download now.
