Near Field Communication (NFC) can be quite a dry topic of conversation, but Sony has come up with a unique way of showing its benefits to consumers. By visiting its temporary showroom at the Truman Brewery in London, you can race a car with a built-in Sony Xperia T smartphone around a miniature track and see NFC in action.
Each racecar has an NFC-active Sony Xperia T phone lodged in the body. When this phone passes over other Xperia T phones built into the track, the two communicate via NFC, causing the player's photo to appear on the track. You can also bump into an NFC speaker to set off a track. Each time your photo is displayed or you play some music, you earn points - with the top 100 scorers automatically entered into a prize draw to win a trip to Las Vegas.
Catherine Cherry, Marketing Director, North West Europe said: “We wanted to show consumers the ease of One-touch sharing in an interactive, but most of all fun, way. Although it’s a technology that is initially difficult to describe, it instantly makes sense when you use it or see it in action. This continues our efforts this year to engage with consumers in new and immersive ways, including interactive NFC 6-sheet adverts, unique-to-UK sound showers and a partnership with dubstep producer Benga to name but a few.”
Xperia Face Off will be at Shop 13 at the Truman Brewery this Saturday and Sunday from 11am - 11pm
