APP WATCH: rara.com heads to iOS and Windows
24 Oct 2012
Upgraded Android app also available for music streaming service
It's a tough job trying to take on Spotify, but plenty attempt it, including rara.com. In fact, rara.com is really going for it, launching new and updated apps for all the main mobile platforms.
The British-based service has just announced apps for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, along with a Windows 8 app and an updated Android app, all able to access the 18 million tracks the service now offers.
The iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad apps offer on-the-move access to rara.com's music catalogue, along with curated channels and playlists. The app is also AirPlay compatible, with the option to synchronise music through the cloud to play across different devices and like Spotify, you can also play offline by storing music locally.
The Windows 8 app offers one touch access to rara.com channels and playlists, as well as the option to search the full catalogue. That will be available to download later this week from the Windows Store. An Android app is already available, but has been now been updated with 'stability improvements', customer account management features and additional language support.
Price-wise, rara.com is £1.99 per month for the first three months then £9.99 per month after. Yes, the same price as Spotify, which is probably the biggest weakness of the service.
