iPad Mini: Launch and Price details

UPDATE: An anonymous source has confirmed that the iPad Mini will be available from 250 Euros, for the 8GB Wi-Fi version. Add on an extra 100 Euros for the 3G version, and another 100 Euros for each storage upgrade: 16GB, 32GB, 64GB. That means the top-end model, the 64GB 3G iPad Mini, will be an eye-watering 650 Euros. It's a bit complicated, so check out our handy iPad Mini price guide and table

At around £200, at least the cheapest model is vaguely competitive compared to the Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire - if the leaks are correct.

Apple has already had its big event this year with the launch of the iPhone 5, but the iPad Mini is still waiting behind the curtain, ready to pop out any day...

According to the AllThingsD site, that event is coming up pretty soon too. Citing 'people familiar with Apple’s plans', it claims Apple will unveil its miniature tablet device on 23 October at an invitation-only showcase. Yes, that's just a week tomorrow, so Apple is really cutting it fine with those invites if it's true.

It's also just two days before Microsoft drops its new Surface tablet and two days before Apple reports earnings for its latest quarter. Expect those to be pretty impressive – and the quarter after to blow us away.

With the late invites and lack of detail, Apple is really keeping this one tight. Those same sources don't even have a location for the event. But it is said to be Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium, which makes it a far more low key event than the iPhone 5 launch. Don't expect the Foo Fighters to turn up for this one.

In fact, details have been kept so tight that we're still guessing the specification of the new tablet. A 7.85-inch liquid crystal display and a Lightning connector is about all we have for sure, so plenty for Apple to 'wow' us with in just over a week's time.
