Samsung Ativ S gets a UK price
Secure the SIM-free handset for £431.99

It was first off the mark when it came to launching a Windows Phone 8 handset, but that has meant a long wait for the Samsung Ativ S to come to market.

Nothing Samsung could do about that obviously. The manufacturer was keen to showcase its Windows hardware, but couldn't launch the phone until the official launch date for the Microsoft platform, which is at the end of October.

But you can order an Ativ S now with one retailer, Handtec, offering the flagship Windows phone for £431.99 SIM-free. Not cheap, but this isn't a cheap phone. It also flags up a (virtual) shelf date of the first week of November, which sounds about right to us.

For your money, you'll get a handset with the latest Microsoft operating system on board, as well as a large 4.8-inch, 720p Super AMOLED HD screen, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage plus an 8-megapixel snapper on the back, paired with a 2-megapixel camera on the front.

Impressive, hence the price. No contract deals as yet. When we hear, we'll let you know.
