Windows 8 tablet swiftly turns itself into a notebook
HP might have cut back on mobile technology over the last year or so, but it is still active in the market, most recently producing this HP ElitePad 900 for the Windows 8 platform.
Microsoft's Windows 8 OS might be here this year, but the HP ElitePad 900 is likely to hit UK shelves well into 2013. Shame really, as it looks a decent bit of kit, especially if you can't quite tear yourself away from a traditional office set-up.
The tablet itself offers that Windows 8 operating system of course, along with a 10.1-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 screen for protection. It also packs a 1080p front-facing camera, an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash on the back and the option of 4G via a SIM-card slot, with the whole thing run via an Intel mobile processor.
That's only half the story though. The tablet also comes with the HP ElitePad Productivity Jacket, which adds a detachable keyboard, multiple connectivity ports and an SD card reader. There's also a HP ElitePad Expansion Jacket, which adds USB and HDMI connectivity, along with longer battery life. Finally, there's the HP Executive Tablet Pen, a stylus for jotting down notes, indicating this is being aimed very much at the business sector.
We'll know for sure as we enter 2013. The US will get this in January 2013, elsewhere is yet to be confirmed.
